Olga Gkountouna


I am a Research Assistant Professor at the Department of Geography and GeoInformation Science at George Mason University, USA.
Studies: I received my PhD in December 2015 at the National Technical University of Athens (NTUA, Greece), as a member of the Knowledge and Database Systems Laboratory’s group, under the supervision of Prof. Yannis Vasileiou. I was also a recipient of the ‘HERACLEITUS II’ EU-funded research fellowship.

I have worked as a research assistant at the Institute for the Management of Information Systems (IMIS).

I received my diploma at the School of Electrical and Computer Engineering of the National Technical University of Athens (Greece) and wrote my diploma thesis under the supervision of Prof. Timos Sellis.

Research interests: My main research interests lie in the areas of databases, data mining, urban analytics, anonymity and privacy preservation of data publications. I am also interested in the management of data streams, cloud computing and MapReduce.
